The heavy January rains stopped, the clouds cleared and a rainbow appeared as the construction fences came down on the morning of the great celebration. State Street Park, a linear park is made up of 5 half acre parcels that run for half a mile along Southern Avenue. This once rock stream vacant utility corridor is now a beautiful park with wonderful recreation amenities for the hundreds of families who are within walking distance of this open space.
The park’s development provided progress on several of the city’s priorities: Safe Routes to schools, Class One off street bike paths, and recreation areas in underserved pockets of the city. Ten funding sources were tapped to make this a no-local-tax-fund improvement. California State Proposition 84, the Mountain Conservancy, CalTrans, County Supervisor’s office and Congressman Reardon’s office all helped to provide funding for the park.
